Solo Military and Veteran Cruisers — Your Complete Guide to Single Cabin Discounts

A major drawback for single cruisers is the supplement that cruise lines typically charge. These are the extra fees paid by one person staying in a cabin built for two.
Almost every cruise ship in the world is priced based on double occupancy. This means that even if you’re traveling alone, you pay the same price as a room for two — minus the government fees for a second passenger.
A solo cruiser creates what the industry calls “spoilage.” Not only does it leave an empty bed that generates no extra booking revenue, but it also means a missing passenger who would otherwise spend on drinks, casino, shore excursions, and spa treatments. This is why cruise lines charge solo travelers a supplement — often 75% to 100% above the per-person rate.
However, there is good news for solo military cruisers! Several cruise lines have recognized the demand for solo travel and have introduced dedicated single cabins on their newer ships — often with no supplement at all.
Keep reading to find out which ships offer studio cabins for solo travelers, what’s included, and how to get your military discount applied on top.
Norwegian Cruise Line — Military and Veteran Discounts for Solo Cruisers
Norwegian offers Studio cabins on the Escape, Breakaway, Getaway, Epic, and the Pride of America. These purpose-built single cabins come with no single supplement — you pay only for one person.
Passengers booked in Studio cabins also get exclusive keycard access to the Studio Lounge — a private common area where you can relax, order room service, watch the big-screen TV, and meet fellow solo travelers.

MSC Cruises — Military and Veteran Discounts for Solo Cruisers
MSC has introduced single-occupancy cabins on their newest ships, the Meraviglia and the Bellissima. The IS1 Interior Studio cabins are available in decent numbers, but they can also serve as the connecting middle room in MSC’s Super Family Balconies — so they sell out quickly.
Book these as early as possible. Solo cabins on MSC are among the hardest to find across any cruise line and go fast.

Royal Caribbean — Military and Veteran Discounts for Solo Cruisers
Royal Caribbean offers Studio Interior cabins on three ships: the Anthem of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas, and Quantum of the Seas. These cabins include a full-size bed, private bathroom, and a flat-screen TV with virtual views of real-time scenery — a unique feature that gives the small cabin an open feel.
These cabins come with no single supplement.

Costa Cruises — Military and Veteran Discounts for Solo Cruisers
Costa offers limited single cabins in both interior and ocean view configurations on half of its fleet, including the Classica, Fascinosa, Favolosa, Fortuna, Magica, neoRomantica, Diadema, and Pacifica.
Costa also runs onboard singles’ meet-and-greet events and social activities specifically designed to help solo passengers connect. Single cabins do carry a supplement, but it can be as low as 30% above the double-occupancy rate — much lower than most lines.
Cunard — Military and Veteran Discounts for Solo Cruisers
Cunard offers dedicated solo staterooms across three ships with no single supplement:
- Queen Elizabeth — 1 interior cabin and 8 ocean view rooms, located on Deck 2, approximately 160 sq ft
- Queen Mary 2 — 15 ocean view staterooms for solo travelers on Decks 2 and 3
- Queen Victoria — 9 single staterooms (8 ocean view, 1 interior), all located on Deck 2
Cunard also offers the popular Gentleman Dance Hosts program — a lovely touch for solo women who enjoy dancing but don’t have a partner aboard.

Holland America — Military and Veteran Discounts for Solo Cruisers
Holland America offers solo cabins on two ships:
- MS Prinsendam — 3 solo cabins, priced at 150% to 200% of the double-occupancy rate
- Koningsdam — 12 solo cabins priced for one person, with no single supplement
Holland America also runs a Single Partners Program with onboard events like cocktail parties and games for solo travelers. On voyages of 40 days or more, gentleman hosts are available for dining and dancing, and singles can request to dine together in advance.
